Rail Mounted Gantry Crane
Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) cranes are heavy-duty, electrified cranes (typically 5–500 ton capacity) designed for precise, high-speed container handling, stacking, and intermodal transfers at ports, rail terminals, and storage yards. They operate on fixed rails, offer superior stability compared to rubber-tired cranes, and often feature automation, anti-sway systems, and wide spans (meters) to optimize space.
Key Aspects of Rail Mounted Gantry Cranes:
Operation & Efficiency: RMGs are widely used in container yards to stack containers up to eight high. They are designed for high-density storage and can operate in manual, semi-automatic, or fully automatic modes.

Benefits:
High Performance: They offer high speed, acceleration, and efficient handling for large-scale logistics.
Reduced Costs: Lower energy costs and reduced maintenance, notes Liebherr.
Space Optimization: Huisman equipment notes that their RMG designs offer high-precision handling for stacking in dense areas.
Components: A typical RMG consists of a main girder, rigid/flexible legs, a trolley, hoisting mechanisms, and long-travel mechanisms.

Hanjiang TY-YT 1000/40, also known as "Kunlun", is the world's first 1000-ton class high-speed rail box girder erection machine. It was designed to transport and install 1000 tons and 40-meter long box girder. Kunlun fuselage has bolted connection design that can be customized to handle various girder length: 24 meters, 32 meters, and 40 meters.
Why is Kunlun a remarkable achievement in bridge construction engineering?
Firstly, it is the first machine that integrated box girder lifting, transportation, and placement functionalities into one unit. In the past, box girder erection needs two separate machines: One for lifting and lowering girder into position, another one for transporting girder from the stockyard to location. This integrated solution means Kunlun reduces the number of equipment needed and thus lowers the cost.

Hanjiang Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of China Railway 11th Bureau Group. It is dedicated to research, design, manufacturing, and servicing railway construction machineries.
Hanjiang is based in Xiangyang city, Hubei province. It is home to the ancient Xiangyang City Wall, one of the oldest still-intact city wall in China.
The company name was taken from the Han River (汉江 or Hàn Jiāng) that runs through the city. The Han Dynasty, one of the Chinese first golden ages, took its name from this river.
